    What is grief?

    Grief is the normal and natural reaction to a loss of ANY kind. It is the conflicting feelings caused by the end of or change in a familiar pattern of behavior.

     

    Loss comes in many forms and there are over 40 types of losses. Among them are:

    What is Grief Recovery?

    Here at From Grieving to Healing, recovery means feeling better. It means claiming your circumstances instead of your circumstances claiming you and your happiness.

     

    Recovery is finding new meaning for living, without the fear of being hurt again. Recovery is being able to enjoy fond memories without having the precipitate painful feelings of regret or remorse. Recovery is acknowledging that it is perfectly alright to feel sad from time to time and to talk about those feelings no matter how those around you react. Recovery is being able to forgive others when they say or do things that you know are based on their lack of knowledge about grief. Recovery is one day realizing that your ability to talk about the loss you’ve experienced is indeed normal and natural. Most importantly, recovery means acquiring the skills that we should have been taught in childhood, which allow us to deal with loss and grief directly.

     

    Obviously, recovering from a significant emotional loss is not an easy task, but we are here to help you. Taking the actions that lead to recovery will require your attention, open-mindedness, willingness, and courage.

    How do I know if I need Grief Recovery?

    Although there are no stages or feelings that every single griever experiences, there are some common symptoms of grief. Do you relate to any of these?

    • Have your eating or sleeping patterns changed?

    How soon after a loss should I start a Grief Recovery program?

    It is never too soon to address your grief.

     

    Think about the following analogy: If you have a terrible fall and break your wrist, do you just go about your day and wait for the injury to heal on its own, or do you go to the emergency room right away and get your wrist checked? If you’re like most people, you would likely rush to the ER. Aside from being physically painful, a broken wrist can severely interfere with your daily routine and responsibilities, and perhaps even force you to take time off from doing certain things and engaging in particular activities.

     

    Well, grief is an injury too – not a physical injury, but an emotional injury – and grief can also be severely painful and cause a negative interference and hindrance in our lives when not addressed.

     

    Often times, we place a lot of importance in our physical health and end up neglecting our emotional health. Yet, neglecting our grief can have an even greater negative impact in our life and relationships, because unlike a serious physical injury, grief can get buried and hidden deep down inside us. We can go through our daily lives, and months or even years could go by without acknowledging our emotional pain. However, unresolved grief eventually comes to the surface – whether it’s after 10 months, 10 years, or 40 years – our unresolved grief can and will wreak havoc in our lives if it is not addressed timely and properly.

     

    The great news is that we are here to help you! At From Grieving to Healing we strongly advocate for you to address your grief as soon as possible. Similar to a serious physical injury, grief is an injury that requires immediate attention so that you can address your emotional pain and get on the right path to healing.

    Why does nothing else I’ve tried work?

    Grief is the normal and natural reaction to loss. It’s not a pathological condition or a personality disorder, but society says there is something wrong with you if you aren’t happy all of the time.

     

    Some of the most common things people hear following a loss are not helpful including “we know how you feel” and “it just takes time.” No one can ever know exactly how you feel because no one had the relationship you had.

     

    Time alone does not heal heartache. Many people come to us with broken hearts over deaths that happened over 20 years ago. It’s not time that heals, but what you do in that time.

     

    Our grief support programs are designed to walk you through a journey from grieving to healing with a proven format to help you take clear actions that will lead you to a happier life.

    How are Grief Recovery programs different from psychotherapy?

    Most people relate grief to death, but there are over 40 types of losses people can experience in their lifetime. Since grief is normal and natural, we don’t want to confuse it with mental or personality disorders. Psychotherapy focuses on the treatment of mental and personality disorders.

     

    As Certified Grief Recovery Specialists (not psychotherapists), we deal with grief and grief only. Our grief support programs are structured to help individuals, groups, and organizations from ALL walks of life by providing a “toolkit” to help grievers effectively navigate and overcome the emotional turmoil that can result from grief and loss.

    Where are your offices located?

    Our Certified Grief Recovery Specialists are based out of several locations throughout Los Angeles County. We can go to you or we can make arrangements to have you come to one of our offices or designated locations. If you are only available via phone or online, we can make arrangements for that as well.

    How much do you charge for your grief coaching and support services?

    You can find information about our programs and fees on our Services & Pricing page. Our fees may vary based on what service(s) you require as well as the meeting location and availability of our Certified Grief Recovery Specialists. We offer custom-priced packages for individuals, companies and organizations, and groups of any size.

    What forms of payment do you accept?

    We accept cash and all major credit cards including Visa, MasterCard, and American Express. We also accept company/business checks, but we do NOT accept personal checks.

    Do you accept medical insurance?

    At this time, we do NOT accept medical insurance as a form of payment for our services.
