Grief Recovery

An Evidence-Based Program to Help You Recover from Grief & Loss
The current COVID-19 pandemic has heightened uncertainty over the economy, employment, finances, relationships, and of course, our physical and mental health. Fear and uncertainty can leave us feeling stressed, anxious, and powerless over the direction of our lives. It can drain us emotionally and trap us in a downward spiral of endless scenarios about what tomorrow may bring.
If you’re feeling overwhelmed by uncertainty and worry, it’s important to know that you are not alone.

Watch Grievers Share Their Truth

We all experience painful feelings when something devastating takes place. We all experience grief when our hopes, dreams, or expectations surrounding a situation are unmet or shattered. We all experience conflicting feelings and emotions when we wish events turned out differently or better than they did. These feelings are normal and natural.

Grief is Emotional, Not Logical

Grief is about a broken heart, not a broken brain.

The Struggle Is Real

Did a death, divorce, or the end of a romantic relationship cause your grief? Or was it caused by any of the 40 other losses that a person might experience in their lifetime such as moving, pet loss, or a change in finances? Regardless of the cause, you know how you feel, and it probably isn’t good. We aren’t going to tell you, “We know how you feel,” because we don’t. Neither does anyone else.

We Can Help

What we will do is provide a safe environment where you will be given specific tools to help you recover from loss and, ultimately, lead a happier life. Grief is the normal and natural emotional response to loss, but most of the information we’ve learned about dealing with loss is intellectual.

About Grief Recovery

Although this Grief Recovery program involves educational elements, effective Grief Recovery must deal with your broken heart, which requires emotional support instead of intellectual explanations. Don’t wait any longer. Time on its own will not heal your broken heart – it’s what you do within time that matters, because time combined with correct action choices is what will bring healing to your deep emotional hurts.

Without Action, There Can Be No Change.

Read What More Grievers Are Saying

Marketing Coordinator

“My life is different now after having completed the Grief Recovery program, because I realized that my grief wasn’t just about the immediate loss, but about the feelings and old wounds that the loss re-opened.”

I was struggling with the fact of being unjustly let go from a job. In the Grief Recovery program, I realized that it wasn’t so much the loss of the job that was disturbing me, but it was more so the feelings of abandonment that this loss had created that were hurting me. Grief Recovery calls on you to dig deeper and, through exercises, discover what is truly upsetting you most so that you can address it.

Cathy was a fantastic facilitator, and she truly made everyone feel right at home. Even now that my Grief Recovery program is complete, I have such a high respect for Cathy, and regard her as a very good friend and confidant. I would highly recommend Grief Recovery in general, but specifically under the guidance of Cathy.

Account Sales Manager

“Everyone should take the Grief Recovery program! It was such a game-changer for me, because I now understand that grief is not just the result of the death of a physical life here on earth, but we grieve all types of things, relationships, situations, and changes in our lives.”

My mom has multiple sclerosis (MS) and I was emotionally struggling with the changes in her health over the last few years as her illness has progressed. I realized that my unresolved feelings of grief were affecting my relationship with my mom, and I had to let go of the relationship that I knew in order to accept and foster a new relationship with her. The Grief Recovery program helped to put things into perspective for me on how to handle different changes in relationships.

Cathy has such a compassionate heart and her teaching style really allowed me to self-explore and gain a new understanding of grief and healing that I had never known or experienced before. I learned to acknowledge my losses and confront them differently. I am able to approach the relationship with my mom in a whole new light – I am more understanding, compassionate, and accepting of who my mom is today versus who she was when I was growing up. My relationship with my mom is healthier and I am now better equipped to deal with the changes that come as a result of her illness on a daily basis.

“Cathy is masterful at looking at the greater picture. This really helped my progress in the Grief Recovery program, because she asked me questions that challenged me and helped me reach my recovery.”

I came to Grief Recovery because I was experiencing changes in my life that I was not able to control and were affecting my relationship with others. This program was a life-changing experience for me, and I realized that we are often misinformed on how to grieve by our parents, friends, and even society as a whole. We are told to not feel bad, to be strong for others, to stay busy, and that time will heal all wounds. Sometimes people are trying to help us by telling us these things, but they don’t know the proper way to deal with grief. Grief Recovery guides us to identify the unhelpful methods that we turn to when we are grieving, and then it challenges us to dig deeper so we can emotionally heal. Cathy’s teaching style is very professional, and she is a genuine friend who cares about everyone’s individual healing journey. I would recommend this program to everyone!

    What is grief?

Grief is the normal and natural reaction to a loss of ANY kind. It is the conflicting feelings caused by the end of or change in a familiar pattern of behavior.

Loss comes in many forms and there are over 40 types of losses. Among them are:

    • Death of a person or pet
    • Divorce
    • Miscarriage
    • Abortion
    • Moving
    • Starting school
    • New job
    • Job layoff
    • Career change/shift
    • Marriage
    • Graduation
    • Adopting children
    • End of addictions
    • Major health changes
    • Retirement
    • Financial changes – positive or negative
    • Holidays
    • Legal problems
    • Empty nest
    • Change or loss of faith

Often these common life experiences are not seen as grieving events. However, we grieve for the loss of ALL relationships that we deem SIGNIFICANT. If the major loss events in your life have not been associated with death, this does not mean that you may not be grieving – it just means that you may have experienced loss in other forms and/or within situations that may not be associated with death.

For more information about grief and loss, please contact us via our online contact form or call us at (310) 954-1996.

    What is Grief Recovery?

Here at From Grieving to Healing, recovery means feeling better. It means claiming your circumstances instead of your circumstances claiming you and your happiness.

Recovery is finding new meaning for living, without the fear of being hurt again. Recovery is being able to enjoy fond memories without having the precipitate painful feelings of regret or remorse. Recovery is acknowledging that it is perfectly alright to feel sad from time to time and to talk about those feelings no matter how those around you react. Recovery is being able to forgive others when they say or do things that you know are based on their lack of knowledge about grief. Recovery is one day realizing that your ability to talk about the loss you’ve experienced is indeed normal and natural. Most importantly, recovery means acquiring the skills that we should have been taught in childhood, which allow us to deal with loss and grief directly.

Obviously, recovering from a significant emotional loss is not an easy task, but we are here to help you. Taking the actions that lead to recovery will require your attention, open-mindedness, willingness, and courage.

    Who is Grief Recovery for?

Grief Recovery is for anyone who suffers from grief no matter what the cause. There are over 40 types of loss experiences including death, divorce, moving, pet loss, change in financial status, and loss of trust, to name a few.

    If you:

    • Have experienced any of these losses
    • Have a broken heart
    • Want to feel better

…then Grief Recovery is for you.

How do I know if I need Grief Recovery?

Although there are no stages or feelings that every single griever experiences, there are some common symptoms of grief. Do you relate to any of these?

    • Do you feel tired?
    • Do you feel emotionally drained?
    • Do you pretend to be happy?
    • Do you isolate?
    • Have your eating or sleeping patterns changed?
    • Do fond memories of your loved one turn painful?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, you are probably experiencing unresolved grief.

How soon after a loss should I start a Grief Recovery program?

It is never too soon to address your grief.

Think about the following analogy: If you have a terrible fall and break your wrist, do you just go about your day and wait for the injury to heal on its own, or do you go to the emergency room right away and get your wrist checked? If you’re like most people, you would likely rush to the ER. Aside from being physically painful, a broken wrist can severely interfere with your daily routine and responsibilities, and perhaps even force you to take time off from doing certain things and engaging in particular activities.

Well, grief is an injury too – not a physical injury, but an emotional injury – and grief can also be severely painful and cause a negative interference and hindrance in our lives when not addressed.

Often times, we place a lot of importance in our physical health and end up neglecting our emotional health. Yet, neglecting our grief can have an even greater negative impact in our life and relationships, because unlike a serious physical injury, grief can get buried and hidden deep down inside us. We can go through our daily lives, and months or even years could go by without acknowledging our emotional pain. However, unresolved grief eventually comes to the surface – whether it’s after 10 months, 10 years, or 40 years – our unresolved grief can and will wreak havoc in our lives if it is not addressed timely and properly.

The great news is that we are here to help you! At From Grieving to Healing we strongly advocate for you to address your grief as soon as possible. Similar to a serious physical injury, grief is an injury that requires immediate attention so that you can address your emotional pain and get on the right path to healing.

Why does nothing else I’ve tried work?

Grief is the normal and natural reaction to loss. It’s not a pathological condition or a personality disorder, but society says there is something wrong with you if you aren’t happy all of the time.

Some of the most common things people hear following a loss are not helpful including “we know how you feel” and “it just takes time.” No one can ever know exactly how you feel because no one had the relationship you had.

Time alone does not heal heartache. Many people come to us with broken hearts over deaths that happened over 20 years ago. It’s not time that heals, but what you do in that time.

Our grief support programs are designed to walk you through a journey from grieving to healing with a proven format to help you take clear actions that will lead you to a happier life.

What is a Certified Grief Recovery Specialist?

A Certified Grief Recovery Specialist is a trained professional that focuses on helping grievers recover from the emotional pain resulting from a loss of ANY kind. We are trained to give you the tools you need to effectively navigate and overcome the turmoil that can result from grief and loss, and our programs offer you an opportunity for personal healing.

How are Grief Recovery programs different from psychotherapy?

Most people relate grief to death, but there are over 40 types of losses people can experience in their lifetime. Since grief is normal and natural, we don’t want to confuse it with mental or personality disorders. Psychotherapy focuses on the treatment of mental and personality disorders.

As Certified Grief Recovery Specialists (not psychotherapists), we deal with grief and grief only. Our grief support programs are structured to help individuals, groups, and organizations from ALL walks of life by providing a “toolkit” to help grievers effectively navigate and overcome the emotional turmoil that can result from grief and loss.

Grief is about a broken heart, not a broken brain. Hence, our grief support programs focus on the FEELINGS and EMOTIONS associated with loss, rather than the intellectual processes that often hinder grievers from moving beyond the emotional pain that comes from loss.

Can Grief Recovery programs be done in conjunction with psychotherapy?

Yes! Many of our clients simultaneously participate in psychotherapy. Here at From Grieving to Healing, we believe that our grief support programs can actually serve to enhance your psychotherapy sessions. Our programs are specifically designed to get to the root of the emotional pain resulting from grief and loss, and the work that we do can help facilitate communication and progress in your psychotherapy sessions.

What grief coaching and support services do you offer?

From Grieving to Healing offers grief coaching and support services for individuals, groups, and organizations from all walks of life.

    Some of our services include:

    • Support Groups
    • 1-on-1 Help
    • Weekend Workshops
    • Corporate Support Programs
    • Spanish Support Programs
    • Webinars & Tutorials

Do you offer grief coaching and support services in Spanish?

Our Certified Grief Recovery Specialists are based out of several locations throughout Los Angeles County. We can go to you or we can make arrangements to have you come to one of our offices or designated locations. If you are only available via phone or online, we can make arrangements for that as well.

How much do you charge for your grief coaching and support services?

We offer custom-priced packages for individuals, companies and organizations, and groups of any size.

What forms of payment do you accept?
